Why Blogger?

You might be wondering why I chose Google's Blogger platform for this site vs. something like Wordpress or the more recent popular microblogging formats. I was a very early adopter of Blogger back in 2001/02 that has stuck with me for years. Over time, I've become quite used to the odd XML layout syntax that perplexes most web developers. Plus, having the ability to truly customize the CSS along with Javascript without constraints was a big win for me.

In fact, while I was still frustrated back in the 2000s with how Blogger mixed its large, combined CSS and XML/XSD template format along with its embedded data access commands, I was pleasantly surprised when they announced a new format in 2010 only to be even more confused with its complexity. Regardless, I've adjusted over time—but not without reservations (did I just use an em dash?)

I do find it odd that Google hasn't modified the underlying syntax in over 15 years. For most, it's not worth the effort which pushes them to running their own Wordpress site or jumping to indie microblogging platforms like Ghost or Jekyll. It wouldn't surprise me if Google pulled the plug on Blogger in the not too distant future. But, I've been able to work with the Blogger API and backup formats to counter that scenario if it ever happens.

There's no telling what AI has in store for any blogging platforms of the future. With the plethora of vibe coded options now, blogging platforms may become as personal as your content within them. It nervertheless does raise the question: will autonomous agents dynamically create blogs based on a combination of personal information along with external knowledge? One thing is for certain; there will be explosive growth in AI generated blogs for some time which
